Visit Mercy Home

Volunteers are a very important key to the long term development and sustainability of Mercy Home.  If you have a desire to reach out and help the people of Ethiopia by bringing aid to the most impoverished, Mercy Home is a great place for you.

One of the primary functions of a volunteer is to educate and encourage the children in the rehabilitation center.  Additionally, there are opportunities to work twice a week at a feeding center where approximately 800 homeless people are fed daily.

Who can volunteer?
Anybody can volunteer as long as they are 18 years old or over and comfortable with a Christian working atmosphere.

What responsibilities does a volunteer hold?
Volunteers must comply with the regulations of Mercy Home. The volunteer is obliged to work at least five hours a day, with weekends off. Work is mainly teaching the children, and there is also the opportunity to work in a feeding center twice a week. Also volunteers enjoy playing with the children and helping them with their homework. Finally, it is greatly appreciated if volunteers come up with innovative ideas to improve the Mercy Home’s progress.

What about accommodations?
Volunteers are welcome to stay in the rehabilitation center during their time at Mercy Home.  The Home offers a safe, comfortable family atmosphere. A small daily fee is required.  Alternatively the volunteer is permitted to stay in a hotel of their choosing at their own expense.
