Is Mercy Ethiopia a Christian organization?
Yes. All of our staff and volunteers are motivated to service by their Christian faith.
No. Mercy Ethiopia is not engaged in direct Christian evangelism. Our ministry is in our service to the neediest in Ethiopia.
Where does the donated money go?
Mercy Ethiopia is currently an all volunteer organization. All money donated to Mercy Ethiopia, unless otherwise designated, goes to our supported projects in Ethiopia. Sponsorship donations go directly to the benefit of the child and the program supporting them. Additionally, our partnership programs in Ethiopia are volunteer based meaning that your donated money is going directly to the benefit of the children (food, clothing, shelter, education and wellness).
Mercy Ethiopia uses PayPal. Is some of my donation lost in fees?
No. Even though Mercy Ethiopia does use PayPal, we have been able to greatly limit our fees. When you make a donation using PayPal, PayPal makes an initial minimum deduction for transaction fees. Mercy Ethiopia, however, has designated funds to replace any loss due to the fees, thus ensuring that your full donation goes to its intended purpose.
All donated money goes to Ethiopia? What about operational expenses of Mercy Ethiopia? All donated money, unless otherwise specified, goes to the children and our carefully selected programs in Ethiopia caring for them. Mercy Ethiopia is run by volunteers and the operational expenses of the organization are absorbed by our volunteer staff and the generous benefactors who have helped us get Mercy Ethiopia started.
Why is Mercy Ethiopia a ‘.com’ and not a ‘.org’?
Mercy Ministry Happy Children’s Home at one time did own the .org. As it can be difficult to operate and maintain a website in Ethiopia, maintenance of the site was delegated to third parties around the world. Somehow, the domain registry lapsed and it was picked up by someone uninterested in helping the Home. Obtaining the .com domain seemed the best option for our plans.
